Nine Can Back into G.B.L. Title If B.C. Loses to Huskies Today

The varsity baseball team could back into the Greater Boston League title today without doing anything more than working out on Soldiers' Field.

The Crimson has finished its G.B.L. schedule with a 5-1 record, and currently stands second in the conference behind Boston College (8-1).

This afternoon the Eagles, the only Greater Boston team to stop Harvard this year, conclude their season with a home game against Northeastern. If Boston College loses, Harvard wins the League title.

It's likely that B.C. won't win today. Their only previous defeat this season came at the hands of Northeastern righthander Dick McPherson, who shut them out on three hits as the Huskies won, 8-0. McPherson will be back on the mound today against B.C.'s Ed Foley.

Harvard, G.B.L. champion for the last two seasons, beat Northeastern 3-0 earlier this year when McPherson wasn't pitching.

The Crimson winds up its schedule with a game at Yale this Saturday, a rematch with Tufts June 4, and a Yale game at Kindlestick Park on Commencement Day.
