Arthur P. Dempster, associate professor of Statistics, will become professor of Theoretical Statistics on July 1.
Dempster's appointment brings to three the number of full professors in the Department of Statistics, the youngest department in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The department, which has centered on graduate teaching and research since 1957, next fall will offer a field of concentration in statistics for undergraduates.
