Students Picket Ec 1, Will 'Stall-Out' Today

Dimly lit Sanders Theatre may be the scene at noon today of a second "stallout for light" demonstration.

Five dissident Ec 1 students stood in the rain in front of Sanders Wednesday declaring they would picket lectures until the lighting situation had been improved. A recent HCUA study claimed the lighting in Sanders, as measured by a high-power light meter, was far below the legal standards of the Massachusetts Public Safety Board.

The University said this week it has no plans to improve the lighting in Sandors Theatre or the Geological Lecture Room.

The demonstrators Wednesday carried hastily prepared signs that said "Harvard: Let There Be Light" and "We Refuse to listen until we can see." Inside, Richard T. Gill, professor of Economics, joked about the matter throughout his lecture and used kilowatt-hours as one standard for comparing developed and underdeveloped countries.
