The Crimson tennis team, unbeaten in its last eight matches, rolled to an 8-1 win over Columbia Saturday on the Soldiers' Field Courts.
All the singles matches were over in less than an hour as Frank Ripley, Dave Benjamin, Clive Kileff, Bob Inman, and Sandy Walker all turned in easy wins. In a surprising number two match, however, Columbia captain Hank Kaplan upset Chum Steele with his steady ground-stroke game and dumped the Crimson junior in straight sets, 8-6, 6-4.
With the match already decided, coach Jack Barnaby broke up his doubles line-up. Steele and Dean Peckham played number one as usual and won in straight sets. Terry Robinson and Tod Wilkinson won the second doubles, and sophomore Rich Friedman teamed with Tom James to take the third in straight sets.
The team has a match with Brown scheduled Tuesday and a tough home contest with Penn Friday--an encounter test with Penn Friday--an encounter which may well decide the team's standing in the Eastern League.
