Lacrosse Team Looks for Sixth Win Against Holy Cross This Afternoon

The varsity lacrosse team looked sharp in Saturday's contest against Cornell, and coach Bruce Munro wants to keep that raser edge for today's 3 p.m. encounter with Holy Cross on the Business School field.

His most effective prod would be a simple reminder of last year's contest, when the lightly regarded Crusaders fought the Crimson tooth and nail for four full periods before bowing 9-7.

Attackman Pat Mattingly and defenseman Jack Farley, co-captains of the '64 squad, were two of the standouts in that contest, and they'll be out for revenge today. The Holy Cross coach has gathered around these stalwarts a beefy nucleus of ex-gridders who are eager to help them get it.

Summer Success

One indicator of the strength of this year's Crusader stick squad is the success of their spring tour. One of the triumphs on the swing through Dixie was an impressive victory over powerful Virginia.

The Crimson attack was on the threshold of doom earlier this week when it looked as though Dick Ames' knee injury might keep him out of this afternoon's contest. The high scoring junior, who netted four goals against Cornell, played sparingly in this week's practice sessions.

But Munro gave Ames the green light yesterday, and the junior ace should be in top form this afternoon unless slowed by wet grounds. Bad weather would be a big boost to the Crusaders, with their fast, rough brand of play.
