SNCC Fund Drive Collects $2000

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Last week's combined Harvard-Radcliffe SNCC fund drive netted over $2000. The money was collected throughout the University through the sale of lapel-buttons and folk song records and was sent to Atlanta this week to help defray the costs incurred by SNCC workers in the field.

More than $600 was collected at Radcliffe where enthusiasm for the drive was greater than expected, according to Robert E. Wright '65, the College's on-campus SNCC representative. At both Moors and Cabot, over $100 was collected.

The drive was much less successful at Harvard. Among the Houses, only Winthrop turned in over $175, with Adams, Eliot, Leverett, and Lowell each taking in about $140. A like amount was collected at Harkness. The biggest disappointments were Kirkland with just over $60 and the Yard with $250. The poor showing among the freshmen may have been caused in part by expenses of the forthcoming Jubilee Weekend.

Wright said that SNCC was fairly satisfied with the outcome of the drive, although they had hoped to reach the predrive goal of $3000.
