UCLA, Duke to Meet In NCAA Title Game

Third-ranked Duke pulled a major upset in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament Friday night trouncing Michigan's second-ranked Wolverines, 91-80.

Center Jay Buckley (6-10) grabbed 14 rebounds and pumped in 25 points to spark the Blue Devils, who led 43-39 at half-time.

Michigan had been worried about the condition of sophomore guard Cazzie Russell, who went into the game with a bad ankle. Russell turned out to be fine--he scored 21 points--but he wasn't enough to stop Duke.

In the other semifinal, UCLA rallied behind forward Keith Erickson to grin out a 90-84 victory over Kansas State The UCLA Bruins, No. 1 in the nation were trailing 75-70 with only five minutes to go, when Coach John Wooden ordered a slow down game to break up the Kansas State zone defense. The Wildcat were forced into a man-to-man defense and fell apart. The Bruins will now meet Duke for the NCAA Championship to night.
