Cliffies Try It Again, Plan Master's Ball

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Cliffies have reversed a recent trend and decided that elegance isn't so non-U after all. South House will hold the college's first formal dance in two years this Saturday night.

The last fancy social event, the 1962 Christmas Ball, run by the Student Government Association, was termed by those who attended "horrible, poorly attended, an incredible bore, a ghastly tradition." At that time it was decided to discontinue the practice indefinitely.

But the girls are apparently responding enthusiastically to the upcoming Master's Ball, a black tie affair being given (gratis) by Samuel E. Thorne, Master of South House. Chairman Nancy D. Elsenpeter '66 estimates that half of South House has already invited dates, and in Briggs Hall alone, 15-20 girls are sewing themselves long gowns.

A wine and candlelight supper in the dormitories will be followed by dancing at Agassiz. Real flowers and open fires will decorate the ballroom, and the surrounding gallery will be open to spectators.
