Fencers Enter Eastern Meet

The Crimson fencing team faces its toughest competition of the season in this weekend's Eastern Intercollegiate Fencing Tournament at Navy. Last year the squad finished ninth in the twelve-team meet, despite a fourth-place finish in the epee by now-departed Steve Khinoy.

Coach Edo Marion will probably rely on his experienced seniors -- Paul Zygas in the sabre, Nick Spitzer in the epee, and Dan Kirsch in the foll.

The top-heavy favorite in the meet is defending champion Columbia, strong in all three weapons. Captain Ian Fries in the epee and sensational sophomore Steve Weinstein in the foll are especially powerful. Cornell's Ronny Schwartz, the Ivy League's top foll fencer two years in a row is also a threat, and a strong N.Y.U. squad can't be counted out.

Usually tough C.C.N.Y. is a bit weaker than usual this season but might have some contenders for individual honors. A pair of dark horses are Princeton and the host team, Navy.
