Lammot duPont Copeland '28 has promised the University a total of $1.5 million for the study of world population problems. Copeland is president of E. I. duPont de Nemours and Co.
The money will be used to establish the Andelot Professorship in the Medical School and the Andelot Endowment for World Population Studies at the School of Public Health.
The name of the first incumbent of the Andelot Chair will probably be announced by June, according to Medical School sources. He will be a member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Copeland's gift to the School of Public Health will eventually establish two additional professorships. He will make annual payments towards an endowment of about $1 million.
The gifts honor Copeland's mother, Mrs. Louisa d'Andelot Copeland.
