The Overseers' Committee to Visit Harvard College will discuss parietal rules with a group of Harvard and Radcliffe undergraduates over lunch at the Faculty Club today as part of a one-day study of the regulations.
The agenda for the study also includes consultations with deans and Faculty members and dinner with the Masters. The Visiting Committee's report to the Board of Overseers, which will probably not be made public, may recommend changes in parietal hours or other aspects of the rules.
In a letter to the students who were invited, Schofild Andrews Jr. '44, Assistant Dean of the College, said that "no member of the Harvard Faculty or Administration will be present at the lunch." The 12-15 students chosen to attend were picked by the Allston Burr Senior Tutors and the Dean's office.
Scandal Spurred Study
The Overseers' interest in parietals was prompted by the "Harvard sex scandal" of a year ago, when an intramural discussion of visiting hours exploded onto the front pages of newspapers all over the country.
Visiting Committees follow a regular procedure in making their twice-yearly reports. Their members spend a maximum of two days at the College and generally draw up a report before leaving for home.
Albert L. Nickerson '33, chairman of the Socony Mobil Oil Co., heads the 15-man Visiting Committee.
