N.Y. Court Sentences Maher This Afternoon

Albert L. Maher '63-2 and 16 other persons found guilty of disorderly conduct in a demonstration near Times Square this summer will be sentenced today in New York City. They face a maximum penalty of six months in prison.

Former New York Mayor Vincent R. Impellitteri, who convicted the 17 after a three-day trial early last month, will sentence them in Municipal Court. The group has already appealed its conviction through a lawyer supplied by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The disorderly conduct charge grows out of a demonstration held Aug. 8 in Duffy Square to protest United States involvement in the war in Vietnam. Policemen on horseback broke up the demonstration, which Maker helped organize, soon after the first scheduled speaker had begun his address.
