The Faculty of Arts and Sciences approved the appointment of two new department chairmen and one acting chairmen at its meeting Tuesday.
Oscar Handlin, Winthrop Professor of History, will serve as acting chairman of the History Department next year, when Donald H. Fleming, professor of History, goes on sabbatical.
Herschel C. Baker will replace B.J. Whiting '25 as chairman of the English Department, Both are professors of English.
And Nino Pirotta, Walter W. Naumburg Professor of Music, will replace David G. Hughes '47, associate professor of Music, as chairman of the Music Department.
