Soccer Squad Stands Second In Ivy League

Two Ivy League soccer upsets moved Harvard into undisputed possession of second place in the league this weekend, a point behind first-place Dartmouth.

Before Saturday's game with Princeton, the Crimson had been in a four-way tie for second place with Princeton, Yale, and Brown. All had 2-1-1 league records, while Dartmouth was 3-1.

Penn, beaten by Harvard 5-2 a week ago, beat Yale 2-1 in a hard-fought defensive battle. It was the first win of the league season for the Quakers, who have also registered two ties.

Brown, which had won two in a row after a slow start, was held to a 3-3 tie by previously winless Cornell.

That left the Bruins with six points, to seven for Harvard and eight for Dartmouth. Under the league scoring system, a team gets two points for a win and one for a tie.

Dartmouth held onto the lead by beating Columbia, 4-1. The Indians play Cornell at Ithaca this week and then close out the season against Penn. Harvard has games left with Brown and Yale.
