University OK's Pro-LBJ Group

The Harvard Council for Undergraduate Affairs last night gave its approval to the Harvard student section of Scientists and Engineers for Johnson and Humphrey, a national political group.

Lucian Russell '65, acting president of the Harvard section, said the bi-partisan group was organized because "to 'know in your heart something is right' is not enough when one is faced with complex problems of modern technology and government."

Leonard K. Nash, professor of Chemistry, and William M. Preston, chairman of the Department of Physics, are serving as advisers to the group, which Russell claimed enjoys wide Faculty support.

Open to All

Russell said the group is "open to all students of science and engineering," and noted that the University requires all undergraduates to take a Natural Sciences course.

The group will recruit members tonight at an introductory meting at 7:30 p.m. in the Adams House Junior Common Room. It also plans to sponsor a panol discussion on science and government on Oct. 14 in Sanders Theatre.

The group's parent organization includes seven Harvard professors, including three Nobel laureates, among its founding members.
