Varsity Booters Massacre BU, 9-2, Display Surprising Offensive Power

For weeks Harvard soccer coach Bruce Munro has been wailing a jeremaid over his team's lack of scoring punch. But his lamentations were looking indicrous by 1 p.m. Saturday after the Crimson offense had manhandled Boston University, 9 to 2.

Brilliant sophomore Jim Saltonstall scored three goals, and veteran Keith Chiappa contributed two toward the rout. But the individual who contributed most to B.U.'s demise was aptly named Terrier goalie John Lack, whose monumental ineptitude gave Harvard several undeserved scores.

Midway in the first period Crimson halfback Bill Kerstetter passed to Akin Adewole on the right side. Lack came out of the goal to pounce on the ball, but he came too slowly. Adewole drilled an easy shot past him into the untended net, giving Harvard a 1-0 lead.

After Chiappa and B.U.'s Katongo Chongo each Scored, Lack did it again. The Crimson's Andy Kydes took a penalty shot from twelve yards, out slicing a soft kick to the right of the net. Lack moved over, positioned himself in front of the ball, and--whoops! --Harvard led 3 to 1.

Saitonstall Takes Over

The Terriers' George Karalevis scored at 11:44 of the second quarter, but then Saltonstall took over and the roof fell in on B.U. At 18:20 of the second quarter Salty took a long pass from Adewole and headed perfectly into the goal. In the third period and sophomore scored twice more the give Harvard a commanding 6-2 lead.
