Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
Walt Hewlett won his fifth race in a row to lead the Harvard cross-country team to a 17-41 win over Cornell in muddy Franklin Park Saturday.
The Crimson's victory was its second of the weekend and pushed the team's season record to three wins and two losses.
Hewlett used his time-tested formula to come home first in this one. He sprinted out early to a healthy margin and simply held on to the lead all the way.
The only man who set out to challenge him, Cornell's Jim Straub, changed his mind abruptly at the two-mile mark and dropped out of the race for no apparent reason.
Moments later Cory Byard, the second Cornell runner in the soggy parade, kicked off one of his shoes--possibly there was a rock in it--and continued the race with one foot bare.
Such unorthodox tactics did little to aid the Big Red cause. By the time the half-shod Byard reached the finish line, four Crimson runners were there ahead of him. Dave Allen took second place, captain Bill Crain third, and Jon Chaffee fourth.
After Byard came Cornell's Roger Ingraham, followed by the Crimson's fifth man, sophomore Jim Smith.
Freshmen Win
The Yardling runners beat their Cornell counterparts 15-48, with Jim Baker taking first place, his second victory in a row.
John Ogden missed the varsity meet because of a cold, but is expected to be back in action for Friday's meet with Dartmouth.
