A new movie theater will open in Cambridge early in February. The Esquire Cinema, located about one-half mile from Harvard Square, will show both foreign and 'high-quality' American films.

The theater, located at 993 Massachusetts Avenue, will be "the most up-to-date in New England," according to Stephen G. Minasian, treasurer of Esquire Theaters of America, which owns both the Esquire and the Kenmore theaters. A sculptured mural by Henri Lyon will adorn the facade.

The Esquire has arranged to rent its basement to the Harvard Student Agencies. The HSA, however, has not yet determined which offices will be located there, Bradford K. Perry '64, president of HSA, said yesterday.

With a capacity of 450, the Esquire will be larger than the Brattle but much smaller than the Harvard Square Theater, which holds 1700. Minssian said that prices would be "comparable" to those of these two theaters.
