More than 150 intrepid Summer School types have sought refuge from the heat on the placid waters of the Charles River. These students have been participants in the sailing program conducted this summer by the Harvard Yacht Club.
Eighty of the budding seafarers have attended the beginners classes held each week. More than 50 have qualified as provisional helmsmen, a distinction which entities them to use the Yacht Club's fleet 15 fiberglass dinghies seven days a week. The boats are moored at the M.I.T. Sailing Pavilion on the Charles.
Harvard University's crack sailing team last year won over half of the 25 regattas it entered, including the North American Team Race and Ivy League titles.
