Crimson Netmen Favored Against Big Green Today

The varsity tennis team, beaten by Princeton last Saturday, should be able to get back on the winning track this afternoon against a weak Dartmouth squad.

Erratic Dave Smoyer takes on Crimson captain Paul Sullivan in the number one match. When Smoyer is good he is very good indeed, but on his bad days he has lost to some very bad players. The consistent Sullivan has to be considered the favorite.

Dartmouth's captain and its steadiest player, Doug Floren, is one of the best number two players around. He whipped Penn's Bailey Brown in straight sets last weekend, and Brown walloped Vice Niederhoffer when the Crimson played Penn earlier this year.

Harvard's number two player is no longer Niederhoffer but Frank Ripley, who plays Floren's careful, consistent style of tennis. Ripley edged out Niederhoffer in a challenge match Monday to take over the second spot. But Ripley will have his hands full against Floren.

Whether the top two players can win or not, the Crimson team should be able to outplay the Indians without much trouble. The Navy team which lost to Harvard 7-2 beat Dartmouth by the same score, and the Indians also dropped a match to a Penn squad the crimson beat earlier in the year.
