Trackmen Beat Brown

Harvard's undefeated track team ran wild against Brown on Saturday, breaking three University records and several Brown stadium marks. Lost in the rubble at Providence was a throughly shattered Bruin team, the victim of a 90-59 massacre.

Once more, Crimson sprint star Aggrey Awori dominated the meet statistics, along with sophomore javelin-thrower Peeter Lampe. Awori won four first places, set two Harvard records, tied a third, and broke stadium records in three events. Awori's outstanding mark was in the 220 yd, dash, where he shattered Joel Landau's recent record of :21.0 by four-tenths of a second. Awori's time of :20.6 is undoubtedly the outstanding mark of the Crimson outdoor season.

In addition to the 220 record, Awori also broke Landau's mark in the 120 yd. high hurdles; barely edging Hank Hatch in the new record was 14.1 seconds. Awori also tied the most ancient University record on the books when he ran the 100 yd. dash in 9.8 seconds, equalling a mark first set in 1906 and since tied by several men. As a final gesture, Awori won the broad jump with a leap of 24 ft. 6 1/4 in.

The third University record to fall came in the javelin, where Lampe took revenge on senior Hank Hatch. Hatch had stolen Lampe's record just last week, but the sophomore regained the mark with a tremendous throw of 218 ft. 1 in., five feet beyond Hatch's mark against Princeton.

Brown stadium marks were also set in three other field events, as the Crimson continued its season-long domination of the weights. Art Doten captured the hammer with a throw of 185 ft. 9 1/2 in., Olney Croasdale won the shot with a put of 55 ft. 2 1/2 in., and John Bakkensen, University record holder, slung the discus 167 ft. 1 in.

Outstanding performances were not exclusively Harvard's however. Brown's distance ace Dave Farley turned in a remarkable double, whipping the Crimson's Eddie Meehan in both the 880 yd. run and mile. Farley ran a 4:09.8 mile, a stadium record, and a 1:54.3 half-mile.

Harvard's still undefeated freshmen spikers edged the previously unbeaten Bruin freshmen, 77 to 72.
