Stickmen Face Slumping Tigers In Ivy League Match Tomorrow

"What's wrong with Princeton's lacrosse team?" the Daily Princetonian asked Tuesday.

After starting the season with a 13-9 upset win over a powerful Maryland squad, the Tigers lost to Johns Hopkins, lost to Navy, lost to Army, and gave up seven goals in the first period Saturday to lose to the Philadelphia Lacrosse Club, 13-10.

Tiger coach Ferris Thomsen has juggled his lineup, benched some starters, and racked his brains trying to break the team's losing streak, but without success. It's quite startling that the Tigers, defending Ivy League champions and rated the most powerful team in the League, have lost so many.

Even the four Princeton losses can't be too encouraging to the Crimson lacrosse team that faces the Tigers at Princeton tomorrow. The same Maryland team that lost to Princeton buried the Crimson, 15-5; although Harvard has a 6-3 record while Princeton's is 1-4, Harvard has been playing far weaker opposition.

But there's no denying that the Crimson lacrosse team has looked very good recently. In its last two starts the varsity has walloped the Boston Lacrosse Club, 10-3, and overwhelmed Tufts, 16-4.

Crease attackman Lou Williams has been the scoring star of the Crimson's recent victories. He tallied twice against the B.L.C. and poured in five goals in the Tufts game.

Princeton has yet to play its first Ivy League match in lacrosse; the Crimson stickmen have a 1-1 league record and a win over the Tigers today would probably put Harvard in contention for the league championship.
