To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

On May 14 the CRIMSON carried a report of the Harvard Debate Council annual dinner and the presentation of the Boyden Memorial Award. The report stated that the Award is given in remembrance of William C. Boyden '16 to the best debater in the junior class. This is totally incorrect; the facts are as follows.

(1) The Boyden Memorial Award honors the memory of William C. Boyden of the Class of 1957. It was established after his tragic death by his many friends in that class.

(2) The gentleman you have identified in your report is the father of the William C. Boyden in whose memory the Award is given. Mr. William C. Boyden, Esq. '16 resides in Chicago and is thankfully very much alive.

(3) The Award is in no way related to debating skill. It is presented to a member of the junior class who by his selfless character and service to Harvard Debate exemplifies these characteristics of William C. Boyden '57. Malcolm H. Wiener '57
