NYT Journalist Maggie Haberman Weighs In on Trump’s White House, Democratic Strategy at Harvard Talk
The Masters of three Houses said last night that they might now favor the HCUA proposal for intercollege dining. They said that a mistaken impression of the plan had led them to oppose it when it came before the Committee on Houses.
The HCUA resolution, which would allow Harvard and Radcliffe students to eat dinner at each others' dormitories free on date nights, was defeated by the Committee in February.
Alwin M. Pappenheimer, Jr. '29, Master of Dunster House, and David E. Owen, Master of Winthrop House, both said that they had thought the HCUA proposal was the same as one last year which would have permitted girls without dates at all House meals.
Pappenheimer said he had no objections to Radcliffe students in the dining halls on regular date nights. Owen, who last month said that the plan might "start lines all the way to the Yard," said that accounting problems might arise, but that he otherwise favored the proposal.
The third Master, who asked to remain anonymous, said that he had not been enthusiastic about 'Cliffies eating in the Houses on all nights, but indicated he might now change his views.
