Rabbi Zarchi Confronted Maria Ressa, Walked Off Stage Over Her Harvard Commencement Speech
Yale displayed its awesome swimming power last night in the Eastern Seaboard Intercollegiate Swimming Championships at Princeton, taking four of the first five places in the 200-yard freestyle and amassing 89 points at the end of only two days of swimming.
Green Beats Pringle
In the 200-yard breaststroke, the feature event for Harvard's swimmers. John Pringle and Bill Chadsey took second and fourth for the Crimson, but Princeton's Gardiner Green won the event, setting new Eastern and pool records with a time of 2:18.0. Pringle's second-place time of 2:19.4 was followed closely by Yale's Dale Kiefer in 2:20.0.
Yale's Steve Clark set pool, Eastern, and NCAA records in the 200-yard freestyle race, winning with a time of 1:46.2. Equally impressive, though, were the other Ell swimmers. Toby Mussman, Dave Lyons, and Ed Townsend, who took second, third, and fifth in times of 1:47.0, 1:48.0 and 1:49.4 respectively. Since the winning time in the Big Ten Conference meet last week was 1:48.2 by an Indians swimmer ineligible for the NCAAs. Yale may be able to look for a sweep of the event in the nationals later this month.
Princeton's Jed Graef barely touched out Yale's Roger Goettsche to win the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.4, and Kiefer took a Yale first, in the 200-yard individual medley in a disappointing 2:05.0. In the only other event of the day, Villanova's Dick McDonough won the 200-yard butterfly, setting pool and Eastern records in 1:58.5.
Relay Tonight
The Crimson's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Dennis Hunter, Gregg Skalinder, Al Engleberg, and Pringle will face tough competition in the final event of the meet this evening. Engleberg may quality for the 100-yard butterfly finals and Chadsey could score in the 100-yard breaststroke.
At the end of two days of competition, the Crimson stands in fifth place among the 48 teams in the meet with 15 points, behind Yale (89), Princeton (33), Army (23), and Villanova (17.
