Keppel, Former Dean, Named Chief Marshal

Francis Kepel '38, United States Commissioner of Education, will be chief marshal at commencement June 13. A former dean of the Faculty of Education, he will appoint 150 aides and marshals to direct the day's activities.

Keppel himself will preside at the commencement luncheon in Fogg Art Museum and lead the procession into Tercentary Theatre for the annual meeting of the Harvard Alumni Association.

Keppel served as assistant dean of freshmen from 1939 to 1941. He was dean of the Faculty of Education from 1948 until last December, when President Kennedy appointed him to his federal poet.

Philip H. Theobald '25, president of the alumni association, named him chief marshal. Traditionally, the chief marshal is chosen from the clss holding its twenty-fifth reunion.
