Still glowing from last Saturday's 2-43 victory over Princeton, the swimming team takes on puny Brown tonight at 8:30 in the I.A.B. Bill Brooks' squad should have no difficulty in drowning the Bruins, who currently claim a 2-2 Ivy record.
Harvard will probably swim most of its second line personnel, but even so the meet will not be close. Brown has a few good men; the Bruins' Bob Martin set a New England Intercollegiate swimming Association record of 1:41.2 in the 160-yard medley against Springfield last Saturday, and Dick Paul lowered the Brown varsity record in the 100-yard freestyle to 50.5. This is as fast as Dave Abramson winning time against Princeton last weekend.
Brown's two Ivy losses have come at the hands of Princeton (64-31) and Dartmouth (60-35). Harvard has beaten both these teams earlier in the season, and so the Crimson is not likely to consider the Brown meet very seriously.
Inevitably Harvard looks beyond tonight's match to the Yale meet March 2. With Brown meeting the Elis on Wednesday, this week should bring one of the biggest double debacles in Bruin history.
The Crimson is currently riding an 18-meet winning streak running from their last loss, the Yale meet of two years ago. This year, their principal competition has come from Princeton, which the Crimson downed in an exciting meet last Saturday. The meet was undecided until the final 400-yard freestyle relay, where the fresh and powerful quartet of Dennis Hunter, Dave Bennett, Gregg Akalinder, and Alan Engelberg swam to an impressive 3:21.3 first place, to settle the meet.
