Mules are not supposed to be ferocious. Army is not supposed to have great swim teams. And Harvard is not supposed to lose to the Cadets.
But the Mules have butchered their first three opponents this season with monster scores like 69-26 (Westchester), 65-30 (Lehigh), and 71-24 (Williams). Like Navy, they have the best team in their history. And Harvard faces them at 8 p.m. tonight in the I.A.B.
The Crimson should be able to salvage a couple of events as the mules seek revenge for Harvard's 53-42 victory last year. Dave Abramson in the 500-yard freestyle and Bill Chadsey in the breast-stroke can look forward to relatively clear sailing.
Abramson is going to have to push, however, if he hopes to take the 200 free-style away from Bill Landgraf of Lynn Hunt. Diver Dan Mahoney will have a much rougher day than usual against Cadet Alex Alexander. And the Crimson's Henry Frey should race Paul Bucha to one of the closer races of the evening in the individual medley.
But Army is strong in every other event, too, from relay to relay.
