The Crimson wrestling squad, bolstered by the return of 157-pounder Jack Mamana, goes after its second victory today against Franklin and Marshall in the IAB at 2:30 p.m.
In the Crimson's 21-7 win over M.I.T. and in the team's seventh-place finish in the Coast Guard tournament, the 157-pound spot was a notable weakness. M.I.T.'s 157-pounder was the only Engineer to win a match, and at the tournament Crimson matmen won at least one match at every weight except 157.
Harvard will need all its strength today against the perennially tough F&M squad. Last year the Diplomats showed enormous strength in the lower weights in winning a 15-14 victory from Harvard.
Key matches today should be at 130 pounds, where Harvard's stocky Brian Smith goes against the Diplomats' sophomore flash Saul Shimansky. Another will come in the 157-pound class, where Mamana takes on returning letterman Paul Martin. The only other Diplomat letterman, Bob Dubner, takes on sophomore Lamar Fertig in the 177-pound boat.
Ben Brooks, who wrestled at 177 during the tournament, will move up to 191 pounds for this match, with sophomore Tack Chace at heavyweight.
Coach Bob Pickett is counting on captain Fred Pereira at 167, Pereira same in second in the tournament, the highest finish by a Crimson wrestler. Almost as high were sophomore 137-pounder Howard Durfee, who took third place, and Peter Keeler (123) who finished fourth among the lightweights.
The only unsettled spot in the Crimson lineup is at 147 pounds, where either Brian Conley or David Worcester may wrestle.
