Just One of Those Days: Booters Electrified, 3-2

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

It was just one of those week-ends. As if the football flasco were not enough, the varsity soocer team was stung by an aggressive Penn squad with a 3-2 loss.

Only a goal in the last 20 seconds of the game spoiled the varsity's unblemished Ivy record. This came from the foot of Penn's inside left, Robert Finney, who scored all the Quaker goals.

Played on a slippery field, the game was even for the first half. With five minutes gone in the first quarter, the Crimson scored when Cormac O'Malley cashed in on a garbage goal. The Penn goalie had dropped the ball on a corner kick, and in the ensuing melee O'Malley poked it in. Finney countered with the Quaker's first goal early in the second quarter.

From this point until the fourth quarter both teams played to a standstill. The poor footing and cold, cross-field winds made offensive play difficult.

But with 18 minutes left in the game Chris Ohiri scored on a unusual triple head play. A corned kick by Morgan Hudson was headed by Ohiri towards the Penn cage, where a fullback headed it back out to the quick Nigerian lineman, who bounced it off his forehead into the goal.

Within two minutes Finney countered with a hard shot just inside the post, and the score remained tied for the remainder of the game. Or almost the remainder. With less than minute to go the Penn outside left swept down the field around the defense and drew the Crimson goalie out of the cage. A neat pass to Finney, who had an open goal, sealed the Crimson's fate.
