Slippery-Fingered Jumbos Bow to Crimson JV, 21-0

Plague of Fumbles Mars Gridiron Tilt

The junior varsity football team scored its second victory of the season yesterday when it trampled a weak Tufts squad 21-0.

Both teams kept the ball moving throughout the first half, but repeated fumbles and penalties were responsible for the failure of either team to score. Tufts never advanced farther than the Harvard 20-yard line, where the ball was fumbled by the Crimson in the last play of the opening quarter.

First Crimson Score

The first Crimson score came midway in the third period, when sophomore Askold Kohlmann plunged over the goal line from the two, climaxing a 75-yard touchdown drive of eleven plays. Roger Noback booted a successful conversion.

The margin was increased midway through the fourth quarter, when George Neville pitched out from the 13 yardline to left halfback Jerry Beasley, who passed to Leo Swift in the end zone. The kick for the extra point failed.

Unexpected Points

An unexpected third touchdown was scored by the Crimson in the last play of the game, when Dan Calderwood scored from the three. The play had been set up when Paul Guzzi intercepted a Tufts pass on the opposition 48-yard line and in the following play Mike Holland received a pass on the three from Neville.

Perhaps the most unusual play of the game came when Noback faked a kick for the overtime extra point, and a Neville to Holland pass into the end zone added two points to the final score.

The JV team looked considerably improved in yesterday's contest since their defeat at the hands of Brown last week. The game was more one-sided than the score indicates. Sophomore quarterback John McClusky turned in a fine performance, but fumbles hurt several of his touchdown drives.

The squad will face the Newport Naval Station in the fourth game of the season this Friday night.
