YAF-Symps Picket Socialist Conference

Dressed in outfits ranging from ROTC uniforms to a draped American flag, fifteen Young Americans for Freedom-symps picketed an organizational meeting of the Harvard-Radcliffe Young Socialists in front of the Quincy House junior common room last night.

Some of them carried signs proclaiming "God is on the Side of the Heaviest Battalion" and "A Socialist Is a 'Man' with Both Feet Planted Firmly in the Air."

"I was not informed what they were protesting," Henry Kahn '64, president of the HRYS said. "All I know is an obnoxious gentleman in a paisley tie and an ROTC uniform obstructed the door to our meeting room."

The "obnoxious gentleman" identified himself as Douglas MacArthur III, and said he was a former member of the YAF. He was subsequently found to be James Gaffney '64. "We're picketing because we don't think the House should be used for this kind of thing," Gaffney said. He refused to comment on whether he was violating army regulations by picketing in uniform. In the background, a victrola played "Be Kind to Our Fine-Feathered Friends."
