A crowd of stampseeking correspondents descended upon the Harvard Square Post Office yesterday as the postal rate increase went into effect.
At one time six extra windows were in operation as postal workers tried to meet the demand for stamps. Post office employees estimated that 50,000 five-cent stamps and about 48,000 one-cent stamps were sold during the day.
