Reischauer Will Resign From Faculty Position To Continue As U.S. Ambassador to Japan

Edwin O. Reischauer, professor of Japanese History, will resign his position on the Faculty when his two-year leave of absence expires in March. The resignation will enable Reischauer to maintain his present appointment as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan.

A University official said last night that no formal notification has been received from the Ambassador concerning his decision. But Embassy sources in Tokyo revealed that Reischauer told President Kennedy of his desire to remain in his present position earlier in the week.

Ashby to Give Godkin Lectures

Sir Eric Ashby, Master of Clare College, Cambridge University, will give the annual Godkin Lectures for the academic year 1963-64. The Lectures are sponsored by the Graduate School of Public Administration and traditionally concern "The Essentials of Free Government and the Duties of the Citizen."

Visiting Professors Appointed

James D. Hart, professor of English at the University of California, and Robert E. Mathews, professor of Law at Ohio State University, will be visiting professors at the University in the coming academic year.

Lodge Resumes Teaching Post

George C. Lodge '50 has been reappointed lecturer in Business Administration at the University Graduate School of Business Administration. The former Assistant Secretary of Labor served on the faculty prior to running for the U.S. Senate in 1962.
