Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
Ninety-two brand new blue, white, and gold MTA cars will be in operation by May 22. Purchased for some $10 million, they will replace 135 cars now in service.
The new cars, complete with fiberglass seats, incandescent lights, two-tone vinyl asbestos floor tile, fans, and picture windows, will each accommodate 322 passengers. Fifty-six of them will be able to sit "longitudinally" while the other 266 stand in the "eight additional inches of aisle space."
The first two cars, from the Pullman Standard of Chicago, will arrive Feb. 4, and undergo test runs on the line between Ashmont Station and Harvard Square during non-operating hours.
