Harvey Brooks, Dean of Engineering and Applied Physics at Harvard, was appointed to the National Science Board by President Kennedy last week.
Brooks, a member of the President's Science Advisory Committee, will replace Julius A. Stratton, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, whose term has expired.
Two years ago, Brooks received an Ernest Orlando Memorial award for his extensive work in nuclear research.
Brooks has been Dean of Engineering and Applied Physics at Harvard since 1957. He was a special research associate at Harvard from 1942 to 1945 and returned here in 1950 as George McKay Professor of Applied Physics.
