Arlett to Coach College Sculling

George Ernest Arlett has been named coach of sculling at Harvard University. Arlett, who has been freshman crew coach at Rutgers University since 1959, will succeed K. Blake Dennison, who is retiring after 39 years at Harvard.

Arlett, 49 years old, was born in Henley-on-Thames, England, He was a top-flight sculler in England, coached Finland's Olympic crew in 1948, and coached Jack Kelley, Jr., of Philadelphia when he competed in the Diamond Sculls of Henley.

Arlett's son, Bob, stroked the freshman crew at Rutgers this Spring.

Before he joined the Rutgers Staff, Arlett coached at Lower Marion (Pa.) High School. He has been a rowing coach since 1932.
