Willy Brandt, Governing Mayor of West Berlin, will give the annual Gustav Pollak Lectures at Harvard this fall.
The lectures are sponsored by the Graduate School of Public Administration and will be held this year on Tuesday, October 2 and Wednesday, October 3. Brandt has not yet selected a general topic for the lecture series.
Brandt has not announced an itinerary for his trip to the United States, but it is expected that he may travel to other areas in the country before or after his Harvard lectures.
Brandt has served as Mayor of West Berlin since 1957, is chairman of the Social Democratic Party in West Berlin and led his party in last year's national German elections.
He was a member of the first and second sessions of the postwar West German Parliament, has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives since 1950 and served as its president in 1955 to 1957.
The Pollak Lectures were established in 1954 by a gift of Leo Silver, in honor of the Austrian-born journalist and literary critic. They are intended to deal with some aspect of the study of government and to encourage careers in government administration and politics.
Previous Pollak lecturers were Robert Schuman, Sir John Slessor, David A. Morse, James B. Conant, Per Jacobsson, and Lord Bridges.
The lecturers will be held in Sanders Theater and will be open to the public without charge, Don k. Price, Dean of the Graduate School of Public Administration will moderate.
