Joseph Schaaf, teacher of music at Weston Music School, is shown conducting a sight reading of Bach's Third Brandenburg Concerto at Dunster House yesterday afternoon.
Schaaf has been informal conductor and advisor to two newly organized string quartets in Dunster which meet each Thursday night. Alwyn Pappenheimer, Master of Dunster House, plays the viola in one quartet with other members of the House.
The groups have been playing for themselves for the first weeks; but the Dunster House Music Society has been formed for next year to encourage musical activities, mostly chamber music reading, and to bring other musicians to the House for concerts.
A dozen other players joined the combined quartets for yesterday's reading, which also attracted a number of listeners to Dunster's junior common room.
