Lacrosse Team Whips BLC 10-3 Despite 29 Saves by Krongard

Cookie Krongard, a Crimson nemesis in past seasons, held the varsity lacrosse team down for the first half of play Saturday, but Coach Bruce Munro's stickmen pulled away in the last two periods to beat the Boston Lacrosse Club by a convincing 10-3. Krongard, a former All-American goalie from Princeton, made saves in 45 minutes of action and held the Crimson to just two goals in the first half.

But the polished variety attacking style of Grady Watts, Lou Williams, and Woody Spruance continued to popper the BC goalie all afternoon and picked up seven tallies between them to put the game on leo.

Williams scored the first varsity goal at 6:42 of the first quarter. The chance came on a quick pass from Watts and overcame an early 1-0 BLC lead. Another Williams goal in the same quarter put the varsity ahead to stay.

Watts, who finished the contest with two goals and an assist, proved once again that he is the key to the varsity's success. The small 5 ft. 8 In. attackman was consistently brilliant picking up loose ground halls, backing up shots, and literally taking the ball out of his defenseman's stick on four separate occasions.

Impressive performances were also turned in by Williams, who led the team with three goals, and Spruance, who dented the BLC nets twice. Munro summarized the attack's stellar play with the statement "They were working real well today and that's what we've been looking for all year."

Munro's midfield units moved fast and blocked hard throughout the contest. By the second half varsity middies were coming up with almost every ground ball and face-off. They fed attackmen to the tune of four goals on fast-breaking plays going the length of the field.

Sophomore "Tink" Gunnoe led the midfield action with a goal and an assist for the afternoon.
