The varsity tennis team rolled easily to its fifth straight victory Saturday, defeating Cornell 3 to 1 on the losers' courts. The win improved Harvard's record for the year to 10 wins and one loss and gave the Crimson its second Ivy League victory against no defeats.
At number one, Captain Paul Sullivan became the first and only Crimson netman to lose a match since spring vacation. Sullivan took Cornell's Jerry Levin to three sets before bowing 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Harvard cruised through the rest of the afternoon with the loss of only one other set. At number two. Vic Niederhoffer smothered Joe Paschow 6-1, 6-0. Except for Keith Martin, all of the Crimson's other singles were in straight sets. Martin, at number six, was briefly extended in downing opponent Steve Bush 6-3, 6-8, 7-5.
Harvard swept the doubles without losing a set. Mark Woodbury and Doug Walter faced a remote challenge in the third doubles, holding on in the second set to win 6-2, 10-8.
