Summer Players Announce Plans

Ben Jonson's Volpone will be the first of four plays produced by the Harvard Summer School Players, Thomas E. Crooks '49, director of the Harvard Summer School, announced recently.

Robert Penn Warren's All the King's Men, George Bernard Shaw's Captain Brassbound's Conversion, and Richard Wilbur's verse translation of Moliere's The Misanthrope are also scheduled.

Run for Two Weeks

Each play will run for two weeks at the Loeb Drama Center between July 2 and August 25.

"I think we had an extraordinarily successful season last year," Crooks said, "and we expect this year to be even better." Robert Chapman, director of Loeb, will produce the plays, and Joseph Everingham, director of drama at M.I.T., and George Hamlin, assistant director of Loeb, will direct.

Tryouts at Loeb

Tryouts will be held at Loeb this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Crooks stated that he hoped "to have a nucleus to work with by the time summer school begins"

In addition, the Summer School drama program will offer courses for academic credit. Among the faculty are Kenneth Macgowan, professor of Theatre Arts, Emeritus, at the University of California at Los Angeles; and Elliot Norton, drama critic and lecturer on Dramatic Literature at Boston University.
