Lowell Cancels 'Beggar's Opera'

The Lowell House Musical Society has cancelled its production of The Beggar's Opera, originally scheduled as the next main stage presentation at the Loeb Drama Center. It is not known what show, if any, will replace it in the late April slot at the Loeb.

Producer Michael W. Schwarts '63 said that the production had been withdrawn because of failure to make up a full cast. "Even if we found the right people tomorrow," he added, "there wouldn't be enough time left before opening to rehourse and complete technical arrangements."

Directors David S. Cole '63 and David Sloss '61-4 explained that they had completed casting several weeks ago, but that a number of key people quit, for a variety of reasons. "Their unreliability has a lot to do with our decision to fold," Cole said.
