LETTERS ON PSILOCYBIN

To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

There is a factual misstatement which appeared in an article on Thursday, March 15, that I should like to correct. You stated "Alpert also asserted that the Food and Drug Administration. The University Health Services, and the synthesizer of psilocybin have approved the experiments." I did not say that and it is not true. None of these organization are set up to pass judgment on research. What I did say was (1) the Food and Drug Administration knows of our work and a discussion with them brought to light no illegality in our research activities, (2) the University Health Services were kindly providing screening and on-call medical service for our research, and (3) that the pharmaceutical company knew of our work and was providing the materials for it.

I wish to make these corrections in order that the function of these agencies in no way be misinterpreted by your readers. Thank you. Richard Alpert,   Assistant Professor,   Clinical Psychology.
