The Freshmen hockey team scored two goals in the last two minutes of the third period and then went on to hold the junior varsity in a sudden-death overtime to a 5-5 tie yesterday afternoon at Watson Rink.

Right-wing Steve Clark scored unassisted at 18:00 of the third period, and with 58 seconds left defenseman Dennis Byrne slapped a shot past J.V. goalie Brandon Sweitzer to even the score at 5-5. The two quick goals culminated a Freshman rally that started at 10:22 of the final period when first line center Baldy Smith tallied the team's third goal with the J.V.'s ahead 5-3.

Freshman goalie Wade Weich performed spectacularly in the sudden death overtime, breaking up several clean breaks at the goal by J.V. skaters. Welch made 55 saves in all against 41 for Sweitzer. The Freshman defense lost Captain John Daly early in the second period and was hard pressed thereafter.

Soon after Daly suffered his shoulder separation, Barry Treadwell, Lee Sargent, and Dick Blakey all scored within five minutes to give the J.V.'s a 4-2 lead.

Another goal by center Jim Downes at 8:17 of the final period gave the J.V.'s their final score and set the scene for the Yardling's comeback.

Entering yesterday's game as decided underdogs with a record of seven wins, six losses, and three ties, the freshmen tied one of the finest J.V. teams in the East Coach Nat Harris' squad meets Yale in its final game Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Watson Rink.
