Maroon Wrestlers Fell Crimson 23-8

The powerful Springfield matmen had some rough moments, but finished up on the long end of a 23 to 8 score in a match against the Crimson varsity at Springfield last night.

After Harvard's Ed Greitzer was decisioned 3-0 in the opening contest, Crimson captain George Doub evened the score with a 2-0 win over George Fox. Doub's points came on a first period take down.

Brooks Cavin kept the Crimson alive at 137 with an unexpected 3-3 tie against heavily favored Dick Joyce, New England Scholastic Champion at that weight.

The Maroon's Mike Gessford triumphed by a fall over Bill Smith at 147, but Bob Kolodney added three more points to the Harvard totals with an exciting 5-4 win over Sam McClendon. Kolodney trailed by 3-0 at one point, and picked up the decisive points on a last period reverse and riding time.

Fred Pereira, Paul Schnitx, and Bob Fastov were outclassed, giving the match to Springfield. The Crimson freshmen also lost 23-3. The sole Harvard winner was John Daniels at 137 on a decision.
