Penn Clobbers Varsity Quintet

Penn really murdered the varsity basketball team last night in Philadelphia, scoring an 89-59 triumph. The loss was the Crimson's sixth in nine Ivy League starts.

The Quakers took a 15-point lead midway in the first half, and had little difficulty from then on. Bob Purdy, with 23 points, and Ray Caraso, with 22, led the Penn offense. Purdy sank 10 of 13 field goal attempts, and Caraso hit on 10 of 14.

For the varsity, captain Gary Borchard and Denny Lynch each contributed 15 points. Borchard brought his career total to 958 points, third in Crimson history. He now needs only 12 to pass Harry Sacks and move into second place.

Borchard may get his 12 points tonight at Princeton, but the prospects for the team are less bright. Tiger Pete Campbell is the League's second-ranked scorer, with 150 points in eight games, and captain Al Kaemmerlen leads the circuit with 123 rebounds.
