The varsity hockey team, for the third straight year, ruined part of Dartmouth's Winter Carnival with a 10-4 victory Saturday morning at Davis Rink in Hanover.

Before a sellout crowd of 2200 Dartmouth students and Carnivals dates, the Crimson broke a 3-3 tie mid-way through the game and went on to its fourth Ivy League win against one loss. At 11:15 of the second period, Crimson forward Ike Ikauniks broke the ice with an unassisted tally that put the Crimson ahead to stay.

Thereafter, senior Jim Dwinell, last year's high scorer on the team with 28 points, contributed to four goals in his most productive performance this season. Dwinell previously had scored only two goals and seven assists.

Exactly one minute after Ikauniks' tally, Dwinell dropped a pass to Gene Kinasewich, who made the score 5 to 3. Coach "Cooney" Weiland initiated a new line in the game with Dwinell teaming with the varsitys' two highest scores--Kinasewich and Tim Taylor. The change paid off as Dwinell later set up Taylor's second goal of the day and scored one of his own that made the score 10 to 4. Ikauniks and captain Dave Grannis also scored twice.

Dartmouth made the score 6 to 4 after 1:21 of the final period, but a score by Dean Alpine of the Crimson came 19 seconds later.

In the freshman contest at Hanover, the Crimson held off a two-goal rally by Dartmouth late in the game to edge the Indian fresmen, 3 to 2. Baldwin Smith, center on the Yadlings' fist line, scored twice.

Tonight at 9 p.m., the varsity meets Boston University in the final of the Beanpot Tournament at Boston Garden. After topping Boston College in the first round 6 to 1, the varsity is a solid favorite over the Terriers, who lost to the Crimson, 8 to 1, on Jan. 15. At 7 p.m. B.C. meets Northeastern, 5-4 loser to Boston University last week.
