Jack Barnaby's varsity squash team opened its home-court season Saturday, banging its way to an easy 8 to 1 win over Army. "The victory is an indication of the power we have," said team captain Roger Wiegand, "and a good start on the kind of season we are expecting."
In the number one match, Crimson starter Vic Niederhoffer easily downed Army's Oerlein in three games, 17-15, 15-6, and 15-8. Only in the number two position, where Paul Sullivan lost, did the team run into trouble. The rest of the matches were all won in either three or four quick games. Seniors Doug Walter and Roger Wiegand looked especially strong, downing their opponents in rapid three-game sets.
The varsity goes to M.I.T. Wednesday at 7 p.m. to play a weak squad that lost to the Crimson 9 to 0 last year.
In the only other Saturday squash action, the freshman team beat Andover, 6 to 1.
