Crimson Defeats N.Y. Rugby Team

The Harvard Rugby Club completed what has turned into a highly successful season by winning the Eastern Rugby Union invitational Tournament at New York yesterday. The Crimson swept in victory with a fantastic 3-5 overtime victory over the New York Rugby club is the tourney finals.

Pit Marshall, an inexperienced sophomore back, scored the winning try in a sudden death fourth overtime with a 60-yard, broken field run. The ruggers had tied New York in the last second of regulation play at 5-5, when Dick Carey, who scored the winning points against Amherst on Saturday, booted a nearly impossible conversion from the touch line. Jerry Pieh, second row forward, had sored the Crimson try just before time ran out.

Throughout the hectic day, the rugby team played five games while dead tired from their upset win over Amherst. Most of the team had arrived in New York after a night-long drive, with some having left immediately after the game on Saturday.

Despite the schedule, the Crimson allowed only five points all day--those scored by New York in the last game.
